Is the check official?

The validator uses the same Schematron ruleset (Apache-2.0, KoSIT itplr-kosit/xrechnung-schematron) as the official reference implementation of Germany's IT Planning Council for XRechnung. For ZUGFeRD/Factur-X PDFs, the embedded XML is additionally checked against the EN 16931 Schematron rules of the factur-x library.

Is the validator free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The check doesn't use up any of your 2 free invoice conversions. A free account is only needed to prevent abuse.

Is my data stored or sent to third parties?

Accepted Answer

No. The check runs entirely on our own servers — the file is not transmitted to any external service and is not stored permanently.

What do errors and warnings mean?

Accepted Answer

Errors (red) violate a mandatory EN 16931 or XRechnung rule and must be fixed for the invoice to count as an e-invoice. Warnings (amber) point to details that are technically permitted but unusual or worth reviewing. Notices (blue) are pure recommendations with no compliance risk.

What do the rule codes mean (e.g. BR-DE-21, PEPPOL-EN16931-R010)?

Every rule in the Schematron ruleset has a unique ID that reveals which part of the standard it comes from: "BR-" stands for a core EN 16931 rule, "BR-DE-" for a German XRechnung supplementary rule, and "PEPPOL-" for a rule from the PEPPOL network standard that XRechnung builds on. For the most common codes we show a plain-language explanation directly — for all others, the ruleset's original message is shown.

Which XML syntax is supported?

Currently only CII syntax (the format also produced by ZUGFeRD and rechnung2e's own generator). Incoming XRechnungen from other software are sometimes in UBL syntax — that's not yet supported, but planned for a later version.
